Sleep out 2017 for the Night Shelter

On October 13th I will take part in a sleep out to raise money for the West London Mission. To give you an idea what a sleep out means: I will be sleeping rough on the courtyard of St James/Piccadilly with other participants. I’m aware that my sleep out won’t be anything like what homeless suffer on a daily basis. It most likely be a fun night. Still it is for a good cause to raise awareness for homeless people and to raise money for the West London Mission to keep up their good work.

The focus of the Sleep Out this year is to raise money for the Winter Night Shelter. A project that is close to my heart as I have been volunteering with it for over 6 years, as coordinator for Notre Dame de France in Leicester Square.

Last season we have supported 72 guests of which 57 moved on into a “normal” life with long term accommodation. One example was Cristian, a young man, who had after a relationship breakdown ended up rough sleeping in Marylebone. The Seymour Place day centre helped him to get a national insurance number and referred him to our shelter. This as set the foundation to find his energy back and turned his life around. He managed the almost impossible task to set up a bank account without a permanent address. I kid you not, he persuaded a bank manager of a well known High Street bank. Next thing he got a job as kitchen porter in a hotel. Now he is a head waiter and has got a lot of money in his savings account. His positive attitude was infectious and his journey is truly inspiring!

To keep supporting people to get into longer term accommodation we need to raise funds. Please donate so the good work can be continued – every little helps!

Many Thanks for your support,
